MAT Jumpstart Practitioner

What is MAT Jumpstart?

MAT Jumpstart is a therapeutic modality that is a great complement to training. It works to “turn on” or “Jumpstart” muscle tissue that is unable to respond to force in a shortened position.

The goal of Jumpstart is to achieve a more balanced, symmetrical, bi-lateral alignment of joints. This is achieved through low-force isometric exercises. MAT will find out where the body displays positions of vulnerability and/or weakness.
MAT Jumpstart is a 5 step process:

Range of Motion assessment (ROM)

Joint Position Testing (JPT)

Low Intensity Isometrics

Joint Position Re-Testing (JPT)

Range of Motion Re-Testing (ROM)

Jumpstart works by treating the most prominent joint position asymmetry. This often will have a positive effect on any other less severe issues. The body is an excellent adapter and compensator, with Jumpstart I am trying to increase stability in one joint position such that it will have a global effect on the entire muscular skeletal system.

Still unsure where to start? You can begin at these body management techniques .

Is MAT Jumpstart separate from Personal Training?

It can be used as a completely separate entity and depending on your current settings that may be the best route, but with Personal Training it is also an important assessment of your starting point on that training day. Issues discovered and renegotiated during the Jumpstart process can then be reinforced during the training portion of a session with the goal your body will accept the new motor pattern. The key is that Jumpstart, whether prior to training or as a separate session, will help promote more joint stability, muscle activation and leave you less prone to injury.
